Fabric, Crochet and a Costume!

Below is a Belly Dance costume I'm designing and sewing for a friend turned client, Nancy. At 9:00 am yesterday morning this was a dress that she brought me to turn into a costume.... by 11:00am... this is what I had.... After I cut the dress in half (the bottom half to be the skirt of course, excuse the wrinkles I didn't steam it yet) I took the top half of the dress, manipulated it, sewed it onto a bra... I left the halter beaded strap but cut out a criss cross strap on the back.. to be used for accessories. The gold part on the bra is tiny sequin flower appliques I added one by one... time consuming!!!
I've got even more done on it today but I'm at a stopping point until she gets over here so I can fit it! I have completed a choker, gauntlets, and arm band to go with it and added some beaded fringe to the bra.
By buying a clearanced out dress with so much fabric to use she's really going to save a lot of money on this costume!

In the world of Crochet... (my new found love) Here's a lovely scarf I completed!!

Close up of the lovely scarf... can you tell I'm really happy with this!!??

Working on my next project... one of those cute hats with the scarf attached... that will be trimmed in either fun fur yarn or feather yarn (if I can find some that doesn't cost to much!)
This was taken Sunday night... The Bald Man was making fun of me!!!
I have the hat complete now and one side of the scarf!

Everyone one needs a relative that sends them fabric, right?! Even though I've not seen my Great Aunt Mildred in years she sent me a LOAD of fabric through my mom who went to visit her a few weeks ago. There's some cool stuff here to play with thats for sure! Mostly knits!!!

Check it out! The 2 top right pieces are woven the rest knit!

The top row knits, bottom wovens.

The blue is a knit. The print a woven... I'm thinking a slouchy purse with it,,, maybe incorporate some macrame and make it real throw back! I do love macrame (wish I was better at it!)

Woven piece. I have enough here for a cute cropped spring jacket and skirt!

Woven piece that is screaming to be a handbag!

Thank you Aunt Mildred!!!!!

In between working on Nancy's costume, crocheting and playing with fabric I have managed to make BWOF 106 from 1/09. Yes! I love it and I'm now now making the dress version of it.
Pics very soon!!!!

A Great Weekend!

The Bald Man and I had a fantastic weekend! Friday we just kinda hung around the house.. watched a movie. Saturday was 'going out' night! We went couple of places and then ended up at the Mirage. Its been awhile since I've been there but we told Rach we would come see her dance. Here she is to the right in a bra and belt I made which looks great on her!! I hate to say it but I really don't like watching bellydancers after all the years of dancing myself and watching them. I find it boring... unless the dancer has what I call the "it" factor. Let me tell ya! Rach has the "it" factor! She sparkles and grows when she dances. Most people can learn to dance... but not everyone shines when they do it. I'll be back to see Rach dance again! Below we have a pic of Capt. Bald Man! Yesterday we took one of the boats out for a joy ride on Lake Loudon. We had fun... and some surprises along the way!! It was a beautiful day to be on the lake!!! Next Sunda...

New Machine!!! and getting organized!

Here's my new baby... The babylock cover stitch machine!!! It runs quite, sews like a dream... For those of you who follow my blog you know I have the Babylock Evolve which has cover stitch abilities.. but I have to convert it.. and I'm lazy. I sew ALOT of knits!! So with the money I made off of a couple of costumes I bought this! And its love!!!! Adding a new machine means re-organizing my sewing rooms to make it work... so my stash got re organized too... check out how neat it looks now!! Actually we're re organizing alot of the rooms in our house... here's the Bald Man in his new office! LOL!!! You can't even walk in there! Also.. I joined the Sew Craft Blog ! I'm in group three and looking forward to meeting new seamstresses and fiber artists!

I get new tops, the Bald Man gets a shirt!

Below is Burda 8116. A super easy tank top with a wrap topper. The pants are from BWOF. This was such an easy pattern!!! I made the below tank and topper in an hour... seriously! Ofcourse I must say having a cover stitch machine greatly speeds up sewing knits. In fact the day after I made these... I made 2 more tanks, another topper.... and the below view from the same pattern... a simple mock wrap top. The jeans were made last year from a pattern I copied from rtw. Anyways for those of you looking for a quick project... gotta get this pattern! Below here is NL 6429. It was easy too.... I actually made this last fall and never got to wear it... I wore it last night to Latino night at the Fairbanks.... good times! I wouldn't mind making another dress like this in some less 'fancy' fabric. Another shirt for my Bald Man... this was his B-day present... made once again using that wonderful Islander pattern. I embroidered a cross on the pocket... Some crosses on the sleeve... A...
