The Babylock Evolve is mine!

Yes!! The Bald Man got me my new serger Tuesday!!! Look at how BIG it is. The 8-thread really does freak me out and I can't wait to try it. I've been using it but just in a standard way. I am going to made some little vests and boleros to practice the awesome decorative stitches and coverstitches this thing can do.

You see before I really get into putting the Evolves special skills to use I have to finish up these jeans!! Imagine that... I'm making jeans!

But check these out.. I am making them using a pattern I copied from a pair of my rtw... which I have used before. They have patch pockets on the front... which I really do favor. I think they are very slimming and eliminate the bulk of traditional jeans pockets. These jeans also have another unique detail. They have no yoke. So I call them trouser jeans. I have added another detail of the black and white zebra trim and yes, it sparkles! Its from the fabric my Mom got at that yard sale a few weeks ago.

The denim is 98% cotton and 2% Lycra from fabric.com. I swear its got way more Lycra that 2% though! Its super stretchy, which I don't like! Mainly because such stretchy denims lose there shape so fast and give the "saggy butt" syndrome.

Hopefully I have found the answer to this problem. More on that in the finished product post!!

Ahhhh, yet another fabulous meal. Crab cakes with chipolte dressing....

This was a team effort. Bald Man did the crab cakes I did the dressing.

The crab cake recipe is in this months Cooking Light and its low fat!

The dressing is 2 Tofu Chipolte dressing recipes I found on the internet and morphed together.

Thats right... no mayo.. silken tofu! If you've not tried silken tofu in some recipes, give it a try. Its really amazing stuff... it saves tons of fat and adds proteins. Just make sure to buy organic!!

I will never understand why scientists test on mice and rats and then determine that humans will have the same results. I really don't see the resemblance between humans and mice!

But I may have seen the resemblance between a few humans and rats in my life.

Tunisian and Tapestry crochet on the hooks

It seems that no matter what or how many projects I have going one is always Tunisian and one is always a tapestry or fair isle type with color changes or pictures. I love this tapestry handbag. It’s going to be The perfect bag for October!! The pattern was included in a booklet that cane with a Simply Crochet magazine from the UK. It’s eating a lot of yarn so Caron one pound yarn is perfect! Cause there’s a lot of it and it’s an easy care for acrylic. Handbags tend to get thrown around a lot so washable with all this white is super important when I was choosing a yarn. I’ll be adding a liner too. And pockets .. I can not have a bag without inside pockets! For oh so long I’ve wanted to try the double hook Tunisian technique. I have Lily Chins dvd on it but she’s way over my head at this point! A Little Break... Back to Work!!!

My Bald Man and I took a little trip on the holiday weekend to Tellico Plains.. now growing up in Athens, TN I have been to the falls and river up there often.. but Bald Man, after living in TN for over 20 yrs had never been!!! Ofcourse we had to take Pac, he loves a good road trip! This is at the overlook going up to Indian Boundary Lake ... Down by Tellico river... Bald Man just had to 'test' the water and see how cold it was... yeah.. its pretty cold,,, mountain rivers typically are. Bald River Falls.... I am the first to admit we do not take advantage of living so close to such a beautiful area... many beautiful natural areas are so close to us ! I mean, in K town... we are so close to the Smokies,,, not far from lots of North Carolina mountain lakes.... we really should get out more and explore close to home. I used to enjoy hiking a bit... but after almost stepping right on a huge copper head up in Coker Creek I stopped... that was 16 yrs ago. I think it may be time to...

The "Panama Dress"!

Here is my "Panama Dress" from fabric I bought in... yes Panama! Its actually a skirt and top but it does look like a dress. No pattern, all draped. The skirt is made up of 4 separate long triangle panels that are that are rounded at the bottom. There's ALOT of movement in the skirt. The top is a fitted band around the waist and the top bust part is only attached in the back and at the sides so the bust part makes a pretty drape and I could get the waist part super tight and fitted. I hand knit the belt out of some beautiful copper yarn I got up in Philly and attached it to the skirt. The purse is some fabric I got at the sewing expo last year and is covered in tiny black poodles. It draws up at the top and through a little black crocheted doily I made that I covered in crystals. The pattern for the purse is called Circle Purse and I can't remember the designer!!! Someone asked me where I bought this dress when I wore it out last Tues. and yes I beamed when I said ...
