#2 SWAP......The Pretty Pants and the evil hong kong seams!!!

Here is the muslin I worked out for my SWAP pants... got the fitting right... now onto the real thing.... And then.................

What got into me???? What in the world made me want to try and do a hong kong finish on these pants??? Oh yeah... because Laura from

did her new SWAP pants with a beautiful underlining and a hong kong finish... and it was fabulous! So I thought,,, hey that looks amazing, I'll give it a try... so I looked it up and found several different articles on them... so here we go...

First off, let me say I have a great serger, a Babylock Imagine ... its not like anything I make has a really unfinished look inside. Sometimes I finish my in seams inside with wooley nylon.. in like a contrasting color... its pretty cute....

But still,,, had to do the hong king thing!!! Wow!!! cutting out the bias.... sewing on one side and then up another... so it took twice as long to make these pants!!!! All I can think the whole time is... why am I punishing myself!!!! Ahhh... live and learn...

I mean, the seams look good but I love my serger wooley nylon finishes!

What have we learned here???? That fancy inside finishes are not for everyone! I mean I feel like I've worked harder on the inside than the outside... and besides no one else will see this hard work!!! And it might be kind of rude to go around showing them...

Here are the finished pants... they're looking a little wrinkled in this pic. I'm happy with them ...they look very nice on.

Love the metallic copper stripes!!

I've pictured them laying on the next fabric to be part of the SWAP... it will be a long elegant cardigan. I'm going for a layered look here....

Moving right along....

Tunisian and Tapestry crochet on the hooks

It seems that no matter what or how many projects I have going one is always Tunisian and one is always a tapestry or fair isle type with color changes or pictures.  I love this tapestry handbag. It’s going to be The perfect bag for October!! The pattern was included in a booklet that cane with a Simply Crochet magazine from the UK. It’s eating a lot of yarn so Caron one pound yarn is perfect! Cause there’s a lot of it and it’s an easy care for acrylic. Handbags tend to get thrown around a lot so washable with all this white is super important when I was choosing a yarn.  I’ll be adding a liner too. And pockets .. I can not have a bag without inside pockets!  For oh so long I’ve wanted to try the double hook Tunisian technique. I have Lily Chins dvd on it but she’s way over my head at this point! This simple pattern is in Interweave crochet magazine fall 2018. Great pattern to get started with!  The Bavarian blanket is still on a hook and will be a long time because ...

Gardens, Costumes and a sad swap

Lovely, beautiful... ahhh, yes... my garden is finally done!!!! After much drama with landscapers... I have a gorgeous garden!!! And below, all sweaty and dirtier than I've ever seen him, is the wonderful Bald Man who thought up the landscape plan... dealt with the hateful "I'm retiring in 2 weeks!" landscaper... and he even put in a soaker hose watering system! Yep, I sure do love my man! Wasn't it nice of the landscaper to leave ALL this compost all over my back yard... a pile of it! What a mess! But, Bald Man is shoveling it up so Brian can put it on the little garden spot up front and so I can use it for more garden projects I have in mind! So its all good!! Here's a not so happy moment... remember on Swap-bot.com how much fun I had when I received my swap??? Jackie went through so much trouble to make sure I had things I would like... the black poodle beanie baby (y'all know I love my poodle babies) sparkly rhinestones I can use for costumes, a pa...

Super squares Saturday: Hobobag and Tunisian sampler squares

Granny square project!! Who loves squares projects?? So easy so versatile for so many different items.  Recently in a Facebook group I saw they had started a square along project.. any kind of squares! Being primarily a crocheter I immediately think of the granny square but I don't feel like a granny square blanket...  so I disregard starting anything but then I see someone making granny squares for a tote!!! And well,, I always want  need  a new bag! Perfect! I remembered some cute bags in magazines I have ( I'm hopelessly addicted to magazines!) and here it is. From the magazine For the love of crochet , My squares project.. A hobo bag!! How stinking cute is this bag!? And so simple..Blue denim color yarn  with off white and brown tweed yarns! Perfect bag for fall or winter.. should it take me that long to get it done. The holidays tend to slow down 'all about me' projects!  I have 8 more white squares to make then I can start the flowers. Need to find th...
